What needs to happen now is
- the paint industry should educate their customers about the risks of mismanaged paint, and the available solutions.
- the regulators should require industry adoption of solutions to the Paint Microplastic Pollution problem, and
- industrial and marine users of paint should adopt measures, including clean blasting, to stop Paint Microplastic Pollution!

Pinovo is very happy to report that it is seeing strong adoption of its clean blasting technology, with industry leaders like Aker Solutions and SalMar Aker Ocean choosing to use our technology for their surface treatment programmes. Should your industrial or marine operation not be doing the same?!

Remember #PaintIsPlastic

LinkedIn Post from Ocean Impact Organisation in Australia

Great article by our Pitchfest alumni Pinovo - finalists in The Ocean Impact Pitchfest 2021 last year - about putting paint microplastic emissions at the top of the environmental agenda:

Pinovo is leading the way in raising awareness about pain microplastics. They even commissioned an independent scientific study, which found that paint is the biggest source of ocean microplastic leakage, accounting for 58% of estimated total annual ocean microplastic leakage 💧

Pinovo have been enthusiastic about their experience doing The Ocean Impact Pitchfest, and we're thrilled to have such impactful alumni behind this type of innovative work in their field.

why another important Norwegian company has made the sustainable choice to protect ocean health

8/11/2022

Want to know why another important Norwegian company has made the #sustainable choice to protect #oceanhealth? By switching to Clean Blasting using Rope Access for Surface Treatment of their painted steel assets?

What this means in plain English is that instead of using the traditional methods of open grit blasting and high pressure water jetting to remove the old paint and rust, before repainting their operating asset, they are using Pinovo's Clean Circular Vacuum Blasting which stops Paint Microplastic Emissions into the Ocean!

Given #PaintIsPlastic, this is a cleaner, safer, and more cost effective solution for the customer, the operator, and the Ocean.

SalMar Aker Ocean AS is a producer of farmed salmon, and operates the pioneering Ocean Farm 1 installation, located off the coast of Trøndelag, Norway. This is the world’s first offshore fish farm, and the structure was built with the technology and principles used at submersible offshore installations. The dimensions are impressive - 68 metres high, a diameter of 110 metres, and a volume of 250,000 cubic metres!!

CAN AS is a leading Norwegian expert in the field of Rope Access, with highly skilled operators used to working on projects with the most complex and demanding access.

Pinovo is delighted that its Clean Blasting technology have been chosen by SalMar Aker Ocean AS to do spot blasting on the Ocean Farm 1 structure, using CAN AS’s highly trained rope access operators. CAN’s operators are using Pinovo’s PiConnect tool that was developed in-house (see full suite of Pinovo’s bespoke tools at https://lnkd.in/e7ZtVBE). As a result, there is no need for scaffolding, sheeting, habitats, or cleaning up, as would be the case with the traditional methods of surface treatment.

On top of the industrial advantages of Clean Blasting, there is also a material, quantifiable sustainability impact, because

1. No Paint Microplastic, Grit and Dust Leakage into the Ocean - SDG's 12, 14.
2. Over 60% less CO2 Emissions compared to open grit blasting - SDG’s 9, 12.
3. Much better working conditions for Operators - SDG 8.

Great to see that SalMar Aker Ocean AS is showing the way by making the sustainable choice for surface treatment!

Perhaps your industrial or marine business should be following their lead?!

CGTN Europe is helping to put the problem of #microplastics Pollution and Pinovo's solution "on the agenda"....literally!

Pinovo want to thank Juliet Errington Mann and Tim Cunningham of CGTN Europe's The Agenda for their excellent programme on the issue of Microplastic Pollution - watch it on this link - https://lnkd.in/ewpE3XsG.

Juliet highlighted the science based, data driven evidence of Microplastics as a problem for the environment, and the scientific studies that are now underway to understand their impact on humans.

Pinovo's Declan Mc Adams explained why #PaintIsPlastic, how Pinovo's solution works, and what the #PaintIndustry can and should be doing to educate their customers about the risk of mismanaged paint, and the ways of mitigating that risk.

The Pinovo section begins at 7.50 mins, but it is really worth watching the whole programme!

Ocean Impact Organisation Post on LinkedIn

Did you know that paint is plastic?

That's right, the thing that does such a great job at protecting and decorating the objects in our lives, when mismanaged, ends up ground into microplastics. Eventually finding its way into the ocean 🌊

The culprit is usually traditional surface treatment methods - like sandblasting and water jetting - used to perform maintenance on steel structures and strip the old paint and rust.

But there's an innovative solution 💡

Declan Mc Adams from Pinovo joined Tim Silverwood on the Ocean Impact Podcast to chat about how Pinovo is innovating the industry through its clean, closed loop grit blasting technology.

Their tools mean that:
- Paint microplastics are captured
- Grit blasting media can be recycled
- 62% reduction in CO2 emissions
- Process is quicker and lower cost overall
- Much safer working conditions for operators

Declan's passion is unmatched, and this episode was definitely one of our favourites. Don't miss EP06 of the Ocean Impact Pitchfest 2021 Series if you're an oceanpreneur, budding impact startup, or just an ocean lover who digs innovation.

Many thanks to Ocean Impact Organisation and Tim Silverwood for recording a podcast about the "gnarly" problem of Paint Microplastic Pollution, and Pinovo's solution - https://lnkd.in/erpzTcRp. It was great working with Tim and all of the team at OIO, who are passionate about the #ocean and protecting #oceanhealth.

Pinovo was a Finalist in the 2021 Ocean Impact Pitchfest.

We really recommend to those Ocean Innovators who have not already done so, to participate in an Ocean Impact Pitchfest with Tim, Nick Chiarelli and all of the great OIO team. This is an excellent way to raise the profile of your solutions, and on top of that, they are lovely people to deal with!

In the podcast, we were delighted to be give a big shout out to Katapult Ocean and UpLink - World Economic Forum for their help and support in putting the issue of Ocean Paint Microplastic Pollution "on the agenda". Pinovo is happy to be part of these two important Ocean Innovation Platforms.

So why was a policeman holding the Pinovo Banner at the #unoceanconference2022 in Lisbon last week?!

Before we get to that, what were our highlights from #unoc2022?

🌊 Kjell Inge Røkke's commitment, as Patron of the Ocean Decade Alliance, and UN Ocean Decade Special Emissary for Industrial Ocean Data, to study the mesopelagic ecosystem, and create an integrated map of #microplasticpollution globally, using the great resources and skills available at REV Oceanand HUB Ocean. To drive policy makers and regulators to action, we need more data on the scale of the #microplastic pollution problem.

🌊 The #ocean100 Dialogues brings together the world's biggest transnational companies with the majority of their revenues from the world’s ocean, to create a science-business platform for ocean stewardship. Meeting Maha AlQattan and Ayla Bajwa from DP World and Benj Sykes from Ørsted, and hearing their plans for action (and not just words!), and disruption of existing practices, is good news for adoption of clean ocean technology solutions like Pinovo's.

🌊 "What gets measured gets managed!" The launch of the #OceanImpactNavigator at an event led by Adrien Vincent from Systemic and Christian Lim from SWEN Capital Partners is an important step towards better and more consistent measurement of the impact of ocean solutions, and Pinovo is very happy to support and participate in this development.

🌊 Funding - Ocean Impact Investors including Christian Lim, Chris Gorell Barnes from Ocean 14 Capital and Peter Bryant and James Lindsay from Builders Vision spoke during the week at different events about the scale of funding that is now available for the right solutions to solve #oceanhealthproblems. This can only be good news!

🌊 The willingness of Ocean Leaders such as Ambassador Peter Thomsonand Vladimir Ryabinin to take time to listen to Pinovo tell them about the science based, data driven evidence of the importance of #paint as a source of Ocean Microplastic Pollution (https://lnkd.in/e4WP5GeQ), and the chance to meet Professor RICHARD THOMPSON, the "Godfather of Microplastics".

🌊 The camaraderie of the other ocean solutions from the UpLink - World Economic Forum and Katapult Ocean platforms who were in Lisbon. Absolutely invaluable - many thanks!!

🌊  Ronald Tardiff and Sadaf Hosseini from UpLink/Friends of Ocean Action/Global Plastic Action Partnership, and Jonas Skattum Svegaardenfrom Katapult Ocean, and all of their excellent teams for their help in getting our messages out there.

🌊 Finally, and the answer to the question at the top - the policeman was not arresting the Pinovo Banner, he was very kindly stopping it from blowing over in the strong Lisbon winds! This was yet another example of the friendliness of the people of Lisbon, and the warm welcome we received in their beautiful city.

Pinovo will be in Lisbon next week at the United Nations Ocean Conference to continue putting the problem of Ocean Paint Microplastic Pollution, and Pinovo's solution, "on the agenda" with Politicians, Regulators, International Organisations, and NGO's.

The resolution passed at #UNEA 5.2 in Nairobi in February recognised that #plasticpollution includes #microplastics. Given the scale of Ocean Paint Microplastic Leakage - 1.9 million tonnes in 2019, and the biggest source of Ocean Microplastic Pollution according to EA - Environmental Action - we are happy to see this issue is now getting the attention it deserves and needs.

Our CALL TO ACTION for the participants in UNOC in Lisbon - Ask the Politicians, Regulators and NGO's who are talking about #plasticpollution next week - What are you doing about Ocean Paint Microplastic Pollution?

Remember:  #PaintIsPlastic!

It's #worldoceansday 2022, and Pinovo would like to remind you that

- Paint is Plastic, and

- Paint Microplastic Emissions are one of the most important causes of Ocean Plastic Pollution, jeopardising Ocean Health and Biodiversity, and reducing the capacity of the Ocean to mitigate Climate Change.

We call on Regulators, and the Paint Industry to act now to stop Paint Microplastic Pollution.

There are proven, readily available solutions for Ocean Paint Microplastic Pollution, including Pinovo’s.

We are delighted that DG ENV in the EU Commission has started to investigate possible regulatory measures to support its objective of reducing Microplastic Emissions into the Environment by 30% by 2030.

But we also need the Paint Industry to educate it's customers on the risks to the Ocean of Mismanaged Paint at the time of application, maintenance, and the end-of-life of painted objects. It’s the Paint Industry's responsibility too!

Last, but not least, have a look at the stunning UN World Oceans Day video - https://lnkd.in/e86u3sr9. It tells you better than we can what we need to do, and why, to protect the Ocean on this #WorldOceansDay 2022!

Pinovo at WEF 2022 Annual meeting in davos

5/27/2022

What an amazing week for Pinovo at the #wef22 in Davos!

Being invited by UpLink - World Economic Forum to join the team of 20 super impressive Top Innovators at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting this week in Davos was an tremendous opportunity to put the issue of Paint Microplastic Pollution, and Pinovo's solution on the agenda with key ocean influencers, politicians, and corporates.

A big thanks to all of the UpLink - World Economic Forum team, led so capably by John Dutton and Nathalie Chalmers, for your hard work, charm, and good humour in supporting the 20 UpLink Innovators, and helping us achieve our targets for the week (which we did, and more!).

For Pinovo to be part of such a team of Top Innovators speaks to the importance of our mission, and how our solution can have an impact in protecting ocean health and biodiversity.

The Ocean needs to have a higher profile at future WEF Annual Meetings. The presence of globally recognised ocean influencers like Kristian Teleki, Director of Friends of Ocean Action and Doug McCauley of the Benioff Ocean Initiative (and also a Friend of Ocean Action), will ensure this happens.

It was great to meet the Norwegian Environment Minister, Espen Barth Eide, who has done so much to put Microplastic Pollution front and centre, starting with his chairing of UNEA 5.2 in February this year, which recognised for the first time that Plastic Pollution includes Microplastics.

The extraordinary ambition, passion and ingenuity of the other UpLink - World Economic Forum Top Innovators motivates Pinovo and makes us even more determined to drive on, working with regulators in Norway and in the EU Commission to take measures which will help stop Paint Microplastic Pollution.

Remember - Paint is Plastic, and Paint Microplastics are the biggest source of Ocean Microplastic Pollution - 1.9 million tonnes annually, based on the findings of EA - Environmental Action

The good news is that industry is now moving to Pinovo's clean sustainable surface maintenance method, instead of the dirty pollutive traditional methods of open grit blasting and high pressure water jetting. Our business continues to grow in Norway, the Netherlands and the UK, and we are having a very busy year. Happy to be working with Aker Solutions, Beerenberg, KAEFER Energy AS, and Linjebygg AS.
