The EU Commission is taking action on the "intentional" #Microplastics that are included in products like cosmetics and detergents. This is a long and slow process, and not everyone is happy - https://lnkd.in/eT7gx5gF, but at least they are moving in the right direction! The next step is for action on what they call "unintentional" #Microplasticemissions from #Paint, Tyres, Textiles and Pellets. We all look forward to seeing DG ENV's report on regulatory measures to stop emissions from these sources of Microplastics, hopefully by the end of 2022. Remember, research from EA - Environmental Action in February, 2022 found that Paint is the biggest source of Microplastic Emissions into the #Ocean. #PaintIsPlastic The EU Commission wants to realise the objective in the #GreenDeal to reduce Microplastic Emissions into the Environment by 30% by 2030. Pinovo is playing its part to achieve this target with its clean blasting technology for surface treatment. If you are not doing so already, why not "Follow" Pinovo on LinkedIn to see how an Ocean Impact company from Bergen, Norway can have an impact on a big Environmental problem like Paint Microplastic Pollution! Pinovo is a leader in the area of #ATEX certification - enabling our customers to operate in environments where there is a risk of explosion. Our tools and equipment are ATEX certified, and have been used inside the torpedo tube of a nuclear submarine, on the decks of Navy frigates, and inside a number of different nuclear power stations! Unfortunately, we can’t show you photos of these applications….for obvious reasons! Because our tools are ATEX certified, they are also used in oil refineries, chemical plants, and on oil rigs. Even our patented PiHab, which enables open and clean blasting within a flexible, mobile habitat, is ATEX certified - see the photo of the label! The other key area of development is #productivity - a traditional challenge for clean blasting. By combining our PiWalk tool with its higher productivity, with a spring balancer and pulley, Perspect Industrial Products, our distributor in the Benelux region, successfully used the tool on the vertical surface of distillation columns in a very large chemical plant in Antwerp. We are currently developing a new version of the PiWalk that will have even greater productivity. So, watch this space!re to edit. A research team in Taiwan has studied the impact of microplastics on the brain and behaviour of mice. They administered microplastics orally to mice for up to 8 weeks, and then conducted a range of experiments using behavioural, biochemical and molecular approaches.
Their conclusion from the experiments was that the microplastics had impaired learning and memory behaviour in the mice. They then go on to postulate that, based on their data, the increased incidence of dementia in humans recorded over the last 20-30 years might be correlated with an increase in microplastic ingestion. While the impact of plastic pollution generally, and microplastic pollution specifically on human health remains unclear, research like this highlights the need for further study, and also for regulators to address the potential health risks associated with Microplastic Emissions. Looking forward to seeing the EU Commission report on Microplastic Emissions, including those from paint, and on measures to achieve the Green Deal objective of reducing them by 30% by 2030. See all the great Solutions and Innovations that were chosen as "Solutions to Watch" by TOOL and WOC in their article - https://lnkd.in/dDvREMpS Recognition of the problem of Paint Microplastic Pollution and the solutions, like Pinovo's, is important and valuable. It incites regulators, like the #eucommission, to address the issue, which in turn drives industry change to new clean surface treatment methods! Well done, and a big thanks to The Ocean Opportunity Lab and World Ocean Council |
